Verse notes in BibleXpress 1.5.1 and earlier do not work in iPhone OS 3

If you upgrade to iPhone OS 3 before BibleXpress 1.5.3 is released, the verse note function will cease to function properly, and you will loose your verse notes.

I have coded an update to fix the problem and submitted it to Apple, but it is unlikely that Apple will make it available to you before Wednesday, when OS 3 becomes available.

The 1.5.3 update will cause the verse notes function to work normally in iPhone OS 3, but will not leverage any of the yet-to-be-announced features in BibleXpress 1.6 which will leverage the iPhone OS 3 new features, within the next few weeks.

Look for some exciting announcements in the weeks to come.

Multi-lingual selection, ESV subheadings

In BibleXpress 1.5, in the ESV, in subheadings, the word “Lord” is missing when it is in small caps. This bug is corrected in BibleXpress 1.5.1. It should become available approximately a week from today.

1.5.1 corrects a bug in which translation bug fix downloads are not recognized.

1.5.1 corrects behavior in which a user’s selected verses are not kept selected when changing to a translation in which the book name is spelled differently.

1.5.1 also lists the type of translation in the “Installed” tab in the Translation Downloader. The type is either “Built-in”, “Downloaded”, or “Bug Fix”. As yet, there are no “bug-fix” translations, but if there are, it is recommended that you stop the application after deleting one before continuing. If you don’t, it’ll probably crash anyway...

Free Translation Bugs Fixed - in 10 hours

The error was in the capitalization of the name of one of the files in the translations. The iPhone’s file system is case sensitive while the Mac’s is not, so in the iPhone Simulator on the Mac everything worked fine...

Less than 10 hours from bug find to bug fix, how do y’all like the new download feature?

Just make sure to delete the old downloaded translations before re-downloading them to avoid wasting harddrive... um... flash space.

Free Translation Bugs

Well BibleXpress 1.5 finally made it in to user’s hands last night, allowing users to download additional free translations. Unfortunately, there are bugs in the Vulgate & Reina-Valera that cause the app to crash if you try to read them. I’m working the problem now; I hope to have the bugs fixed before I head to bed tonight. For now, delete the Reina-Valera or Vulgate in the “Installed” tab, and wait for the update to be fixed. The bugs seem to be in the downloadable data files, not in the software, so I’ll be able to fix the problem by posting an updated file on my website, and we won’t have to wait for Apple’s regular week-long approval process. The bug does not occur in the iPhone Simulator, so I’m having to install a back version of the iPhone SDK in order to test on iPhone OS 2.2.1 devices....

The Chinese Union Version & Lutherbibel seem to be working fine.

Easter Bugs

Bugs in 1.4.1 include incorrectly labeled verses in Mark 7, ESV.
Zechariah 12-14 were rolled into chapter 11.

These bugs are fixed in version 1.5.
